Day 21 – Box and Mould production continued

Howdy,

Today has focused mainly on producing stock of our boxes and further increasing the amount of moulds we have for making the chocolates. Angelo and Lorna had redesigned two of the 3d models to work better, which would hopefully allow the chocolates to release from the moulds far easier.

After 3d printing a large selection of the new redesigned shapes, as well as some of the designs that had deteriorated due to the moulding techniques, we arranged the shapes on the vacuum former bed once again. Keith had managed to source some more of the PETG plastic that we had been using and so after he had found it, we were able to start moulding with the help and guidance of Keith.

With our new moulds completed, we returned to the prototyping room to continue on producing more of the new boxes as well as our new business cards designed by Mike. We had some difficulties due to the unpredictable nature of the laser cutter and so we decided to use the slightly older and less powerful laser cutter due to it’s increased reliability. Whilst the cutter was processing our business cards, we sought the help of Steve Gill to help us with the vinyl cutter located in the prototyping room. We required the use of the vinyl cutter to make stickers which would seal our boxes shut until the customer opened them after purchasing them.

Overall, today has been especially productive, we have now got a stock of over 30 boxes ready, as well as business cards, new moulds and sealing stickers for our boxes. I feel happy with the fact that I now know how to use the vinyl cutter as this is a piece of equipment I have wanted to learn to use for a while. We have definitely worked well as a team today, creating and almost production line quality of manufacture between us. I am really happy that I am able to work in a team in a far more effective manner than I previously could.
