Now I have finished my product design project for the moment, I have decided to look at my technical research again and decide which sector would be best to tackle.
I have narrowed the ideas down to four sectors, each with a project idea:
Sporting Goods | Consumer Electronics | Healthcare Products | Automotive Components | |
Criteria | Tennis Racquet Grip | Personal In-Ear Headphones | Orthopaedic Insoles | Car Steering Wheel |
Contains otherwise difficult to create complex forms | – | + | – | – |
Use of average anthropometric data causes constant ergonomic problems | + | + | + | + |
Aesthetics could benefit from customisation |
+ | + | – | – |
Would benefit from easily printed spare parts |
– | + | – | + |
Small size could allow quick printing | + | + | + | – |
Can be easily customised for user’s form |
+ | + | + | + |
Total | 2 | 6 | 0 | 0 |
After a lot of deliberation I feel that the consumer electronics market would be best to tackle and 3D printing would allow the complex internal structures to be built with ease, whilst also allowing a customisable exterior.
