Day 23 – Point of Sale designs

Howdy,

Today I focused purely on the design of some of our point of sale stands. I started the day by searching for materials within the product design studio. I managed to find some spare clear acrylic sheet which I was able to use to create a stand to show a single box of Gusto chocolates to consumers in an effective manner. The stand was easily cut using a bandsaw, then strip bent to shape using a strip heater, then finally sanded using an emplaced rotary sander. These skills were transferred from my design & technology studies at school, though It was nice to hone my skills by undertaking this challenge.

My second challenge was to screate a point of sale stand to hold a large amount of stock for presentation to customers. I began by sourcing some thick card which came in the form of some thin corragated cardboard. I used the cardboard  to create a small solid triangular stand which would form the base of my stand. I used some excess card to create shelves for the boxes, which would allow 2 boxes to be held per shelf. Two shelves are mounted on two of the three sides of the triangle, with the third side facing a backing wall. I really enjoyed working back on designs and actual hands on work again, I found that it was much more relaxing and less hard work to be doing that instead of some of the other tasks I have undertaken.

Finally today, after Angelo had completed our new business cards, I decided to begin some sections of or business plan. I used some of the knowledge I have maintained from my business studies A-Level to be able to explain using business terms some of the intricacies of our business. Although I have not yet finished the plan, I feel that I have made a good start and I look forward to completing it to a hopefully high standard.

Overall today, I feel I have regained my love for making things and I also feel like I want to further develop this by perhaps creating more, either for this project or just for fun. Today we worked well as team again and I feel that Lorna and Angelo were excellent help for critiquing my designs for the point of sale displays.
